Glen Lowes of Complete One reveals why personal branding is a must for entrepreneurs
Award-winning entrepreneur and Managing Director at Complete One, Glen Lowes argues that having a personalised online footprint is an essential part of a business strategy and that entrepreneurs need to focus on personal branding.
In 2017, after four years in business, Mr Lowes committed to building his personal brand, and his efforts didn’t go unnoticed. The business owner was asked to address aspiring entrepreneurs on the subject at two separate industry conferences. After a year of building a brand, the entrepreneur has noticed the benefits, and he is urging aspiring entrepreneurs to develop their own brand.
- Image matters
“In the modern world, image matters,” argues Mr Lowes. Human beings are very visual, and for entrepreneurs, Mr Lowes believes that people can use photos to create a positive personal brand. The Complete One director invests time in the Instagram platform. With research showing that Instagram is heading towards one billion users, the platform provides an excellent channel for entrepreneurs to build their brand and make connections.
- Control over content
Mr Lowes contends that one of the most critical aspects of building a personal brand is content control. The passionate business coach and mentor is urging entrepreneurs to put their content online to create a positive representation. “In the modern arena, a lot of people have content online that they might not be comfortable with fellow professionals viewing, the more content that someone puts online, the good will outweigh the bad, and project the desired brand,” commented Mr Lowes. Since Mr Lowes committed to creating a personal brand, he has noticed the difference with forging business relationships and talent acquisition. “When people search for you or topics related to your work if the content they find is of high quality, they are more likely to choose you over a competitor,” said Mr Lowes.
One of the essential factors in creating an online brand is talent acquisition. According to a Jobvite survey of recruiters, 95% believe that a competitive personal brand is a critical differentiator in attracting the best talent. “Since committing to developing a strong personal brand, there has been a distinct difference in the type of people that Complete One has acquired,” commented Mr Lowes.
The entrepreneur acknowledges some small but significant changes can be made quickly, but to build a substantial online presence takes time. “You can’t build an online brand overnight, it’s going to take time, and it’s important to realise that. The secret is to get started now!” stated Mr Lowes.
